The CVCVAC Youth Corps provides an opportunity for young people in high school, between the ages of 14 and 18, to serve our community, learn new skills, make new friends and gain valuable, hands-on experience in the field of Emergency Medicine. Youth Corps members are expected to assist senior members on ambulance calls on a regular basis (a few hours a week) and attend training, classes, meetings and other functions as determined or directed by the Youth Corps Advisor. Each member receives extensive training in HIPPA Privacy Regulations, Blood Bourne Pathogens awareness and American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Healthcare Provider. Additionally, youth members receive ongoing training in basic first aid skills and have the opportunity to earn the New York State Certified First Responder certification and eventuallly the New York State Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certification. CVCVAC Youth Corps members who graduate High School are eligible to become Senior Corps members once they turn 18. Recently, the CVCVAC Youth Corps participated in the 2013 Annual Countywide Yought Corps Competition and took second place overall out of 6 teams.
As soon as we receive your application, a membership committee member will get back to you to schedule an interview where we can get to know each other and you can ask any questions you have about the CVCVAC and what it's like working as an Emergency Medical Services volunteer. If you like, you can also stop by the Ambulance Building to pick up an application. We're located at:
